NEWS & EVENTS
(JAN 2025)
Hi everyone, Unfortunately this page has not been updated since 2022, when I went over to Radio Mi Amigo, as I was asked to start a 24/7 service from Lightvessel 18. Although extremely busy, I was really happy running Mi Amigo and it was sounding great! Though it left me little time for Starship Overflow, which over the next two years was was neglected. Despite the problema which were yet to come, I always managed to keep Overflow shows on-air every single week.
In August 2024, although still running Radio Mi Amigo (allegedly), I was being undermined by the station's technician, who of course had the power to do exactly what he wanted. On the third and final time this happened, he messed with my schedule & put in a programme from a new presenter, which I had not agreed to and refused to remove it. After speaking to the owner of the station, he refused to back me up, so I left Mi Amigo immediately.
For me, it was a lesson learned. As the previous time I'd left the station, it was for exactly the same reason! There was a problem with certain people plotting against LV18, I passed on a warning and said I cant work with these idiots, but again no back-up so I left.
At the end of the day it's such a shame that others have to be power hungry, awkward and underhand. Everything I was doing was for the good of the station and all the hours & work put in were given for free, as it's a charity.
These actions ruined what could have been a thriving and extremely popular radio station by now.
NIL DESPERANDUM FOLKS! Starship Overflow is still airing every week in all the usual places. Plus we have plans to replace London's River Gibbs FM service (which closed in April 2024) with a brand new 24/7 stream direct from The Starship Overflow.
An exciting mixture of programming from the world of Alternative & Undeground music, is on the way for 2025!

Friday 17th December 2021, will be the 35th Anniversary of Starship Overflow!
I still remember quite clearly, sitting in an armchair 2hrs before our first broadcast, with Tom the cat on my lap, worrying myself silly that everything was going to workout. Then at 8pm that evening we appeared on not one but two frequencies on the FM band... 90.9 and 93.9. Looking back, the opening broadcast did workout ok. The transmitters were stable, all the studio problems had been ironed out in advance and the station itself was widely heard. I would say the only thing lacking in what we were doing, was experience in this kind of radio.
Until this point, I had been programming for a number of radio stations, playing chart & dance music, or a mixture of both. Having previously worked in many nightclubs, I was used to hearing this non-sensical rubbish and at that point, it was really all I knew.
But I hadn't forgotten my own musical roots, growing up through the punk era and being tired out at school, due to staying up listening to John Peel 10pm - Midnight every night on my transister radio. Dont forget, this was a time way before the introduction of the internet in England. John Peel was probably the only source of discovering alternative bands & new music there was!
In brief, we remained as a pirate radio station until 2001. 15 glorious years on the FM dial. Then in 2002, I decided to go legal and took the show to a number of other radio stations. This is when it all started to happen.
35 years on and Starship Overflow has now been aired on over 50 radio stations worldwide in total.
The music format changed slightly in early 2005, as so much new music was arriving, it did'nt seem right to be playing old stuff anymore. Surely the airtime could be better used concentrating on promoting new music by the bands & artists that could'nt get airplay elsewhere? Seemed logical, so the decision was made.
So here we are, approaching 2022 and very much looking forward to all the new sounds the year will bring.
TUNE IN TO STARSHIP OVERFLOW'S SPECIAL 35TH ANNIVERSARY BROADCAST, TO HEAR A SELECTION OF SOME OF THE VERY FINEST NEW MUSIC SENT INTO THE STATION OVER THE LAST THREE & A HALF DECADES.
